It’s time for brands to boycott Facebook

SUMMARY: Zuckerberg and Sandberg have continually lied to users and been caught time and time again going against their own “standards.” Democrats and Republicans are both calling for new legislation to curb Facebook’s power, and it’s about time.

Have you ever been in Facebook jail? I’ve been in FB jail three times for calling Trump supporters stupid and ignorant while they call me libtard. I don’t care it’s their right to call me a name but when Facebook decides that it’s bullying and you get banned while allowing have groups to have pages and posts things are out of control.

Zuckerberg and Sandberg have continually lied to users and been caught time and time again going against their own “standards”. Now Democrats and Republicans are both calling for new legislation to curb Facebook’s power and it’s about time.

According to Vice, “Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg dismissed any claims that her social network was responsible for organizing the “Stop the Steal” protest in Washington, D.C. last week that descended into a violent attack on the Capitol that left five people dead. But at the very moment Sandberg made these comments, there were at least 60 “Stop the Steal” groups active on Facebook, some with tens of thousands of members and millions of interactions.”

While FB likes to ban people for bullying  they have allowed “Stop the Steal” groups to flourish and organize events across the country since. Facebook’s excuse for this is that it has been “allowing robust conversations related to the election outcome,” adding that this will continue.

The same day Sandberg minimized Facebook’s role in service of the armed people who tried to take the Capitol, people who claimed responsibility for organizing the mob were using Facebook and Instagram to plan more of them.

Ms Sandberg has profited very nicely from working at Facebook. She just built a multimillion dollar home in the Valley and is worth more than a billion dollars. This is someone who has a sign in her meeting room stating no bad news”.

Facebook has a level of power never before seen online, and they are abusing that power. They can’t control groups that call for violence but call someone stupid, and you’re banned for a week or longer.

Why should Facebook change when advertisers are begging them to take their money? Personally, I won’t buy anything on Facebook and tend to avoid brands that advertise there. Brands are pulling support Republicans who contest the election, but they’ll continue to give Facebook ad dollars. It’s time for consumers to flex their muscles and drop support for any brand that advertises on Facebook.

Facebook needs to be held to the same level of accountability that we hold to people. Sandberg should resign, and Zuckerberg should be replaced as CEO as he has lost FB employees’ support. It’s long overdue.
