Apple has encountered hurdles in innovation and difficulties in introducing successful new products such as the Vision Pro headset and Apple Intelligence. This struggle has raised internal concerns about maintaining its innovative prowess and lacking innovation.
Innovation at Apple died with Steve Jobs. Tim Cook is a glorified, overpaid logistics manager who has let too many people lead by failing. Apple has grappled with delays and issues in its AI system, notably experiencing challenges with Siri’s accuracy and functionality. These setbacks have shed light on internal dysfunctions and leadership obstacles within Apple.
Complications like political conflicts, financial limitations, and talent departures have further impeded Apple’s progress in developing and launching groundbreaking products. Additionally, the company’s reliance on outdated GPUs and limited investments in AI infrastructure have disadvantaged it compared to rivals like Microsoft, Google, and Meta regarding AI advancement.
Still, despite these setbacks, Apple customers are loyal, but that loyalty is evaporating quickly. New iPhones are minor improvements and cost too much; OS X has been evolutionary for over ten years, and their organization has layers of people.
Can Apple Be Fixed?
Yes, if the next CEO is a visionary rather than a logistics person. Here are some things I believe need to happen:
1ne: Time for OSXI. Hire back those who created OS X and give them space off campus to develop a new OS for desktops and laptops. Upgrade Mail, Safari, Photos, and Chat that completely reframe the user experience. Buy WordPress and Grammarly and integrate them into OSXI.
2wo: Sell Beats. Apple paid billions for Beats headphones. How many do you think they need to sell to make that back?
3hree: Only introduce new iPhones when there are features that customers want.
4our: Buy EERO from Amazon and make it the next Airport. EERO is a fantastic product, but Amazon is not marketing the brand correctly.
5ive: Need a 16-inch Macbook Air.
6ix: The iMac needs a complete redesign. Having different colors to choose from is not innovative. They also need a 30″ iMac.
7even: Better accessories. Need a better selection of add-on keyboards, speakers, and other Mac accessories.
8ight: Streamline the organization. We don’t need Directors for every app on the Mac. The current organization is way too bloated.
9ine: Lead on something. Anticipate future needs and how technology can meet those needs, and design a product that helps us.
Apple’s stock has done very well, but Steve never cared about the stock price; he was focused on innovation and the future. Tim Cook needs to step down along with the other Apple self-made stars.
